How to pay for homeschool classes with your Arizona ESA
You found a class your child wants. Now you want to pay for it with ESA money without a rejected order or a receipt you cannot find in March. Here is how it works, in the order you will do it.

Can I use my ESA for classes and enrichment programs?
Yes. The handbook lists "tutoring or teaching services" as an approved category and gives examples that include art, foreign language, science, music, physical education, and more. Classes like ours fall under that category.
What are the four ways to spend ESA money?
The handbook names four: Marketplace (online orders shipped to you), Pay Vendor (direct payment to a registered vendor), the ClassWallet debit card, and Reimbursement. For classes, Pay Vendor is the one to use when the provider is registered, and here is why.
Why Pay Vendor is the easiest way to pay for a class
When a provider is already a ClassWallet vendor, the handbook says you do not have to upload the teacher's credentials, because the ESA program reviewed them when the vendor registered. You upload the invoice, ESA staff approve the order, and ClassWallet pays the vendor, typically within 2 to 10 business days per the handbook.
If you pay with the debit card instead, the handbook requires you to upload a paid invoice or receipt plus a copy of the tutor's credentials or the business's attestation form for every transaction. Screenshots of a website do not count. Pay Vendor skips all of that.
How do I pay Home Is Our Sanctuary through ClassWallet?
Four steps. On the class listing, choose ClassWallet and fill in the short form that generates your invoice. We email you the invoice and our completed teaching attestation form. The handbook does not require credentials for Pay Vendor orders, but we send the attestation anyway so your file has everything an auditor could ask for. In ClassWallet, open Pay Vendor, find Home Is Our Sanctuary, upload both documents, and submit. ESA staff approve the order, and the class is paid.
For weekly programs, you do this once. After that, a new invoice arrives by email every 28 days until you cancel, and you upload it the same way. If you would rather pay by card, that works too; ESA-eligible programs are marked on every listing.
What if the vendor is not on ClassWallet?
The handbook gives two options. You can pay out of pocket and submit for reimbursement, with itemized receipts and any required credentials, after linking your bank account in ClassWallet. Or the vendor can register: the handbook says providers apply through the Vendor section of the azed.gov ESA Support page, and ClassWallet charges vendors a 2 percent processing fee, which vendors may pass along. When will the money be in my account?
The handbook's funding windows: July 15 to 31, October 15 to 31, January 15 to 31, and April 15 to 30. A Pay Vendor request submitted before the money posts has nothing to draw on. If a class starts in the first week of a quarter, pay by card and submit for reimbursement, or ask the provider whether they will hold your seat until funds land.
What gets an order rejected?
Per the ESA Parent Handbook: an incomplete invoice, a request for more than the invoice total, receipts dated before you signed your contract, and, for debit card or reimbursement, missing credential documents.
