    LEGO Science + Rock Climbing

    A program by Home Is Our Sanctuary, hosted by Alta Climbing

    An 8-week Friday program for ages 8 to 12. Every Friday is half LEGO Education science lab and half coached rock climbing at Alta Climbing in Gilbert. This is not a drop-in climbing session. It is a real science curriculum paired with real climb coaching.

    You want your child in something that builds both their mind and their confidence. LEGO Science + Rock Climbing does both in one morning. Your child spends the first part of each Friday working like a scientist with LEGO Education kits, then puts on a harness and climbs with real coaches at Alta.

    What Each Friday Looks Like

    LEGO Science Lab

    9:30 to 10:45

    Your child works in a small team using the LEGO Education Science curriculum. These are structured labs, not free play. Kids build, test, and explain real science and engineering problems using the 5E model used in classrooms across the country. Aligned to Arizona grade 3 to 5 science standards.

    Transition and Gear-Up

    10:45 to 11:00

    Clean up, water break, and harnesses on with Alta staff.

    Climb Coaching and Supervised Climbing

    11:00 to 12:30

    An Alta coach leads 30 to 45 minutes of instruction on movement, safety, and technique. Then kids put it into practice with guided, supervised climbing. Alta staff handle all safety during this block.

    Meet Your Instructor

    The LEGO Science half is taught by Cortland Watson, EdS, a school psychologist with degrees in School Psychology, Psychology, and Statistics. Cortland is the founder of Home Is Our Sanctuary and leads STEM and SEL programming for homeschool families across Arizona.

    What Is Included for Two Payments Totaling $535

    • 10 hours of structured LEGO STEM instruction. At our regular Sanctuary STEM rate, this alone is about $492 of class time.
    • 8 coached climbing sessions with all gear included. Day passes and gear rental would normally run about $30 per visit, or $240 across the program.
    • A 2-week universal Alta membership during weeks 6 through 8. Unlimited access to the Gilbert, Chandler, and Scottsdale locations, a value of $70 or more.
    • The Week 8 STEM & Climb Showcase on October 9. See your child's models, hear them explain their work, and watch them climb. Photos included.
    • Early enrollment access to all Home Is Our Sanctuary programs. A 48-hour head start on registration for every HIOS class and camp.

    All together, that is over $925 in real instruction and access for two payments totaling $535.

    How Billing Works

    ESA accounts can only be billed four weeks at a time, so the $535 total is split into two payments. Nothing changes about the program, and you never have to sign up twice.

    Payment 1

    $300

    Due at registration. Covers weeks 1 through 4, August 21 through September 17.

    Payment 2

    $235

    Sent automatically four weeks later. Covers weeks 5 through 8, September 18 through October 9.

    • Paying with ESA funds through ClassWallet: your second invoice arrives by email on its own. Just submit it the same way you submitted the first.
    • Paying by card: the same card is charged automatically for the second payment, and we email you a paid receipt.
    • Joining after the first Friday? The total is prorated for the sessions you missed, and both payments shrink by the same proportion.

    Our Equal Value Guarantee

    Because Alta reserves limited climbing spots and sponsors a membership for each enrolled child, all sales are final. But your tuition never goes to waste. If LEGO Science + Rock Climbing turns out not to be the right fit for your child, every unused session converts to equal credit toward any other Home Is Our Sanctuary program. If your child attends one Friday and decides climbing is not for them, the full value of the remaining seven Fridays applies to STEM, art, Spanish, or upcoming camps until it is used up. And your child is still invited to the Week 8 Showcase so they finish with a win.

    How to Register

    Seats are limited to 24 because Alta can only hold so many kids on the wall at once.

    1. 1Register and pay below. ESA families pay through ClassWallet. All other families pay by card.
    2. 2Watch for your confirmation email. It includes our ClassWallet vendor attestation form, your child's curriculum documentation, and a link to Alta's participant waiver.
    3. 3Sign Alta's waiver before the first climb on August 21.

    We are an approved ClassWallet vendor and happy to provide any additional documentation your family needs for ESA records.
